How would you define yourself?
Educator
Please describe yourself and your areas of interest.
I first studied John Ruskin as a sociology undergraduate at Hobart College. Since that time, I have remained active in the Ruskin world through both writing and teaching. I am committed to the careful study of Ruskin’s works, which, I believe, is fundamental for preserving his legacy. I also believe in the importance of participating in civic life. I have previously served on the town council of Scottsville, VA and am currently volunteering with both arts and environmental organizations in central Virginia.
Why did you become a Companion of the Guild?
To-day, there is an urgent need to see that art, labor, and nature are all one, and that any “true political economy” comes from benefiting them all at once. To that end, there is not only a need to promote Ruskin-inspired works in the world, but to also keep his writings alive. The Guild serves as an important vehicle for connecting like-minded people committed to that mission, and I am excited to be a part of it.
