Please describe yourself and your areas of interest.

I have written five novels for adults and five for children, all principally set in Venice. I also write about Venice as she is today.

Why did you become a Companion of the Guild?

I have long loved Ruskin's way of seeing and thinking about Venice. He was able to penetrate not just her art but her way of being. I know he would despair of the things that now bring Venice to her knees, like the monstrous cruise ships and the corruption that has blighted the Mose project. How Venice still needs his crystalline moral imperatives and his implacable intellect!
