Ross Burgess

Please describe yourself and your areas of interest.

After retiring from my career as an IT consultant I have worked, mostly on a voluntary basis, as a web designer and editor. I have been the principal contributor to the Wikipedia-style UK LGBT Archive, and have made many edits to articles on Wikipedia itself. I edited and prepared for publication Diverse Performances: Masculinities and the Victorian Stage (Paradise Press, 2014) which had been left unfinished on its author’s death. I have helped to edit and publish several other books (one of them including a couple of my short stories) and maintain several websites. I live part time in Edinburgh and part time in Falkland, Fife, where I am involved in local history research and publishing for the Falkland Society.

Why did you become a Companion of the Guild?

I first encountered Ruskin's works through an interest in historic buildings, but I have since begun to delve into his economic and social thinking. I have been very much encouraged by my husband, Peter Burman, who is a Director of the Guild, and I plan to continue reading Ruskin's works and reflecting on the relevance of his thought to the issues of today.
